Reserve de Gassac
Reserve de Gassac - £65.99
Price on from Laithwaites.
Aime Guibert's Mas de Daumas Gassac shot from obscurity 25 years ago to lead a quality revolution in southern France. His wines were hailed as 'a miracle' and experts debated whether his red was more like Lafite or Latour. ''Reserve de Gassac is made with the same pride and care as our Grand Vin. I'm proud to present these new vintages!'' - Aime Guibert. This is the fifth and most accomplished vintage yet of rich, great value Reserve de Gassac red. The superb 2006 conditions have given this wine superb concentration and complexity (it actually impressed us even more than the mighty, expensive Grand Vin). Aromas of blackberry and spice, bags of ripe blackfruit flavour, earthy richness and a lingering finish.

Gran Martinez Corta 2006
Gran Martinez Corta 2006 - £8.29
Price on from Laithwaites.
Virtuoso winemakers for three generations, the Martinez Corta family are blessed with low yielding vineyards in the premium Rioja Alta. Unusually for Rioja, the family own all the vineyards, so they can ensure their vines receive the best care. Entirely hand-harvested from the estate's oldest Tempranillo vines (up to 100-years old!) this intensely flavoured wine receives all-star treatment - from vineyard to bottle! Hot-shot winemaker, Felix Martinez Anzoategui aged the wine in the new French oak barrels, usually reserved for their top-flight wines, for even more luxurious depth. A warm embrace of ripe, concentrated berry fruit, intertwined with vanilla spice leading to a silky smooth finish. Enjoy with roast lamb, tomato-based chicken dishes, roasted vegetable lasagne or Manchego.

Reserve de Gassac Grande Cuvee 2004
Reserve de Gassac Grande Cuvee 2004 - £9.29
Price on from Laithwaites.
Aime Guibert's Mas de Daumas Gassac shot from obscurity 25 years ago to lead a thrilling quality revolution in southern France. His wines were hailed as 'a miracle'... experts debated whether it was more like Lafite or Latour...revered wine writer and Sotheby's expert Michael Broadbent described Aime's white as ''One of the top ten whites in the world.'' The Grande Cuvee is made from small patches of vines (mainly ripe, aromatic Sauvignon) growing amid the sparse southern stone and scrub. The wine's 'secret' is the careful use of intense but little-known local varieties and light barrel-ageing, lending exotic complexity and uniquely delicious flavours. Bright and herby. A fresher style of Gassac on the nose but the palate is familiar; exotic juicy southern weight and a strong finish. Terrific!
