Antica Vigna, Masseria Biscardo
Antica Vigna, Masseria Biscardo - £45.30
Price on from Laithwaites.
Here's a BIG red with an incredible depth of smooooth plum, coffee and wild herb flavour ... from 'antique' vines in Italy's sun-drenched heel. In 2006, these heirlooms gave grapes at an awesome 15% alcohol, expertly tamed by Maurizio Biscardo. Once sent north to add 'oomph' to Tuscany's famous wines, this soulful red now shines as a fine wine in its own right. A terrific bargain!

Groote Kaap Cabernet 2007
Groote Kaap Cabernet 2007 - £7.65
Price on from Laithwaites.
What a beast we unleashed when we challenged top Cape winemaker Franz Smit on Spier Estate to find us with the biggest, richest red he could. His special project Groote Kaap 2006 delighted customers and became our quickest selling South African wine ever ... Groote Kaap Cabernet 2007 is a triumph of finesse and power from an exceptional year. Just as you'd expect of 100% Cabernet - it's a rich mouthful of staggeringly ripe cassis, blackberries and plums, plus the smoky red fruit aromas and spicy edge that only come from skillful oak-ageing. Then there's that warming, velvety alcohol too - all 15.5% of it. Can't wait for you to try this! Make way for the mightiest glassful this Spring! Wonderfully heady aromas of smoky red fruit ... then oodles of rich, ripe cassis, blackberry and plum flavours. Nice spicy oak too, with a luxuriously long finish and a velvety smoothness that belies its power. Absolutely terrific - serve with big, juicy steaks or gourmet sausages.

XV du President 2007
XV du President 2007 - £7.15
Price on from Laithwaites.
How about this! The legendary King of the Big Reds is back - in a luxuriously smooth, unmissably good NEW vintage! When Le XV first landed here 17 years ago, its unprecedented levels of black fruit flavour and silky texture made it an instant hit. Key to that intensity of flavour are ancient Grenache vines, grown high in the Pyrenees. The big (very BIG!) news this year is that the fruit was picked exclusively from the village of Maury - the home of ''thunderously powerful Grenache'' (Andrew Jefford, The New France). Plus, in 2007, thanks to even less rainfall than usual (this is officially France's driest region), yields were so low, and the wine so concentrated that Le XV's winemakers rate it better than the famously good 2000 vintage - we heartily agree! Inky-black colour, billowing succulent dark fruit, with spicy raspberry and sweet tobacco aromas. Richly textured, with layers of bramble fruit kept deliciously smooth by the ripe, 15% alcohol. Enjoy with roast lamb to 2011.

Viottolo Viale Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon
Viottolo Viale Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon - £119.94
Price on from Laithwaites.
A delicious blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet, Viottolo Viale was crafted by the original RedHead, and inspiration for the project, Justin Lane. Born in Hunter Vale, Justin grew up immersed in the culture of winemaking, and spent his apprenticeship in Puglia, in Southern Italy. It was there that he realised the potential of Sangiovese, (which in Puglia produces wines with a staggering 15% alcohol) and conceived the idea of creating a super-charged, fuller, warmer Aussie version of an Italian classic - keeping the bitter cherry flavours and high acidity but with the power and concentration of a Shiraz. A touch of Cabernet gives elegant structure. His believe in producing this style of wine Down Under has really paid off ... Justin was chuffed when Parker rated his Viale ''stunning'' ... and blown away when he called him an Aussie clone of Elio Altara - one of Justin's all-time heroes, maker of ''some of Italy's most magnificent wines''. Demand is sure to be fierce for this stunning wine!
