Great menu combining great fresh local produce with skilled french style cooking, and good lunchtime set menu. The seafood risotto and boulibase needed to be seen to be belived!!The staffw ere friendly and helpfula nd knew the menu very well. The restaurant also had a really nice relaxed ambience. Our whole party had a great meal here including one who is allergic to shellfish!!

We and some friends ate at Birdies last night (1st Nov 2008) The food was very good. I started with mussels and potato soup, our friends had the mussels and goats cheese salad, my wife had olives and olive bread. My wife and I had beef wellington whilst both of our friends ate sea bass. For dessert we had apricot tart and icecream. The food was lovely but was somewhat spoilt by the lack of service. Although the place was half empty adding to the lack of ambiance, we had to keep trying to catch the waitress' eye to refresh our drinks, the fish starters came without finger bowls or wipes and the waitress seemed put out that we couldn't taste the tia maria in the calipso coffee telling us she had put more than usual in - does that mean we were lying? Another problem was trying to read the menu off the blackboards, that is not a comfortable way of choosing your food especially when a table of people is sitting under the board and you feel that you are encroaching on their space just trying to read - something we were unable to do from our table. Unfortunately, although we enjoyed the food we probably will not be returning.

mussels for starter, a rather large portion of steaming hot mussels with cream and onion, followed by deep fried bream with chillies and little room left for the chocolate torte, scrumptious.
