Doesn`t live up to expectations! - review added on Wed 19th Sep 2007
The last two occasions we have eaten at The Green Man, Hurst we have been a bit
disappointed. The food was very average, not very well presented and sometimes not even served hot.

The Sunday roast was fairly poor. Well done beef was more like shoe leather and the roast potatoes were still rather solid. The experience was only rescued by a good array of traditional puddings, although microwaving a fruit crumble can leave someone with a burnt mouth. Despite being somewhat top heavy with young waiting staff, they need better direction and training in customer service. For a good Sunday roast, I would suggest visiting other local pubs offering a Sunday carvery which are cheaper and offer better quality food.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH FOOD! - review added on Wed 2nd Jul 2008
We could not recommend the Green Man in Hurst - not even to our worst enemy! When we asked whether the sea bass fillet served was a child's portion, we were told by the Manager of the Day that it was certainly not a child's portion, but that they always serve 7-8 oz fillet "but they shrink in the pan"!! He had not even bothered to look at the portion served, which by then was back in the kitchen. Food was all served cold - and impossible to distinguish even that it was food. I wouldn't serve it to our dog. What a shame the staff are too young (both in the kitchen, and the waiting staff) to know what food should taste like. Motto: never argue with the customer - without customers you go out of business; never serve food cold unless it is meant to be served cold; taste the food yourselves, Manager and staff, then you may realise what rubbish you are serving. The original 17th century customers would have been disgusted!

Good atmosphere - review added on Thu 10th Jul 2008
staff were friendly, food very tasty. The only gripe - the salad was a bit limp. Best of all - no music and no slot machines. Exactly what a British pub should be.
